These instructions will work, to a point, but the CD label for the v5.9.1 program, as supplied integrated in the K-3iii, is S-SW177.

If there is an update in the future you just download the update and it will update the version running on your computer.

You install it to your computer from the camera which acts like the installation CD. Essentially they put it there instead of including a separate CD for you to lose. But again, from what you say, it sounds like I am better off using my Photo RAW and bugging ON1 to make sure they continue to support as best they can Pentax.ĭCU versions are all incremental, so the version embedded in the K-3iii is currently as of today. It is time for me to dig through the hundreds of old CDs I have lying around to see if I can find the Pentax DCU installer CDROM. But does that mean future updates of DCU will be included in the firmware updates? Or is there a separate download and update process to update the built in DCU? So if I understand your last answer, the functionality of DCU 5 is included with the camera. I did not say in this post, but am waiting on my B&H preorder of the K-3iii. Thanks for the quick answers to my questions.

Sorry about my confusion on this, but I can see it is not a new topic, with discussion going back to 2011.Īs a side note the new K-3iii has the base DCU software store on ROM in the camera so there is no CDROM to lose!

As I mentioned there might be other specific features.ĭCU will/can produce results closest to what you can get with OOC JPGs.ĭCU is not known to be the most user friendly and I do not think a lot of people use it as their default RAW processor. In comparison LR ignores these settings and starts you with a generic RAW image. This is just a starting point and you go from there. It is tweaked for Pentax, for example it defaults to the JPG settings that you have set in your camera even though you are shooting RAW. Is the functionality from DCU unique or is it all duplicated in the RAW editor I own (which happens to be ON1 Photo Raw)? Not legally Maybe contact Ricoh to see if you could buy it?Ĥ. Is there somewhere to download the base DCU 5?

SilkyPix software is similar/same to DCU in its processing but may miss some Ricoh/Pentax specific features (possibly Pixel Shift but I could be wrong).ģ. IF this is correct, what needs to be purchased that can be updated by the Ricoh site updater? I only see on the SilkyPix site a Version 10 of their product. DCU is the Ricoh/Pentax software which is based on underlying SilkyPix processing software.Ģ. Is my understanding correct that SilkyPix now owns DCU? It appears the a company called SilkyPix now owns DCU. I see updates on the Ricoh for DCU version 5, but no download of the program. But that was so long ago, I have no idea where the install CD would be. I see DCU (Digital Camera Utility Version 5) referenced sometimes and thought I had a copy that came with my K-30 or K-70.
